Purple extreme was originally formulated to protect drive chains in the mining business and on offshore oil rigs, in some the harshest conditions imaginable, for months at a time. Purple extreme has extremely high film strength, way beyond most conventional chain lubrication products available within the bicycle industry. The ability of a lubricant to keep two surfaces separated is called film strength. Our film strength is second to none. The ASTM D 2782 test (Timken extreme pressure test) is one of the laboratory methods used in determining the load carrying capacities of oils and greases. In this test, a Timken bearing cup is rotated against a steel block. The highest load under which a lubricant prevents scoring (caused by contact) of the steel block by the rotating cup is the reported value. Our dare-to-compare live demonstrations using a Timken machine have consistently and conclusively proven purple extreme's ability to keep metal surfaces separated. Purple extreme has a Timken ok load in excess of 90. No other bicycle chain lubricant has ever exhibited film strength even remotely close to purple extreme. What does that mean to our customers? Simple, less wear. Like an insurance policy, this extraordinary film strength provides extra protection for bearings and surfaces subjected to mechanical stresses. Your equipment lasts longer, runs smoother and cleaner, with less frequent applications of lubricant.

Recommended by a local bike shop many years ago, I've been using Purple Extreme ever since on my chain. It holds up well on the dusty/muddy trails I ride.

Works great! Must be applied to a clean chain. Be sure to let dry before riding and lube rollers only.

Have tried many brands of chain lube, so far I would rate this one of the better lubes.

I'd been using another bike lubricant that I'd been using for years and my son had recently bought the Bike Medicine Purple Extreme lubricant on recommendation from a friend for his gravel bike. He said it was amazing at keeping the dust from sticking on the chain. So I bought a bottle and used it on my gravel bike and most recently on my touring bike where I bike toured France in Sept/Oct, 2024. A great lubricant and I am now using it on my road bikes and both touring bikes.

Love this brand. Last for at least 350 to 400 miles between cleanings of chain.

Like this oil, it does go on wet and penetrates the chain link rollers. I cleaned my chain before lubing and after spinning for a few minutes dirty oil was dripping off. Cleaned the chain again and lubed again, the chain stayed clean and provided smooth shifting. Will purchase again, love synthetic lubricants.

Over the years I've tried numerous chain lubes and they all seem to fall short of the desired effect. Clean well oiled chain attracts dirt and things go south quickly. Extreme Purple goes on wet and once the carrier oil flashes off what is left behind is a dry extremely effective dry lube that resist dirt attraction. One suggestion I would make is to help mother nature out a bit. If you follow the instructions you are to apply , wipe excess, and let sit over night for best results. The problem I've had is unless the weather is extremely warm the carrier oil never seems to evaporate leaving once again a wet chain prone to dirt attraction. What I do now and works great is this. Clean the chain. Roll into a flat tight circle and place on a piece on scrap ceramic tile. Take an electric heat gun an warm the chain so its nice and warm. Now with the chain heated apply the chain oil. You can see it being sucked into the rollers . If the oil smokes the chain is to hot. Now once lubed put the chain on the bike. Now if correctly done the chain is still a little damp. Take the heat gun and while turning the crank slowly warm the chain as it rotates drying the remaining oil. Once dry Purple Extreme works great and preforms as promised.

I am giving this a try. As a long time White Lightning user, I finally got fed up with the waxy build up on my cogs. Chains lasted well, but the annual feel cleaning was a pain. After buying a new mountain bike, I was reading reviews on MTBR.com and in the maintenance area, there was a long discussion on chain lubes. The conversation around purple extreme was intriguing, and I took a chance.First, I removed and thoroughly cleaned/degreased the chain. A new chain comes with this assembly lube that makes it glide like butter, and shift super smooth. But that comes with a price, this lube is a dirt magnet, so after a couple of off road rides, the chain has collected a lot of gritty dirt. Off it comes.Following the directions, about 1/4oz of purple extreme applied, and while the drivetrain is not as smooth with the assembly lube, it is still a crisp shifter.4 rides in, the chain is fairly "dry" to the touch, but not noisy, the indication of a good application. A few more rides and I will repeat.I suspect if I rode in the rain a lot, I would breakdown and run a wet application of Finish Line, but for my typical riding, this seems to be a good compromise.
