It's very light weight as compared to aculon series. Very study. Optics are slightly better than aculon. But will only come to know when you test both binoculars side by side. Main advantage is it's waterproof and dust proof.P.S : please keep the lens caps in the case before using it. It might get lost.

I’m a longtime Nikon camera user and fan of the brand. That said, I’m very disappointed in the quality of these binoculars. There are features to like — they feel good in the hands, I like the rubberized coating, they adjust easily and are bright and crisp from a view perspective. Now the downside — the glass looks pressed in and rough edges are visible, not smooth ground edges like you might expect for example with a Nikon lens. The eyepiece caps barely stay on if you’re gentle, so those are bound to get lost. Worst of all, look closely at the photos — you see significant overflow of helicoid grease inside the binoculars near the internal glass. One warm day in the sun or left in a hot car (not that I’m suggesting anyone should do that), and that grease is going to find its way onto the optics. Appears someone over-greased the parts during manufacturing. Returned these and bought a pair of Vortex binoculars. Two stars for the positives I mentioned, but perhaps that is being generous.

Never used Nikon before for anything, but these Prostaff 5 12x50 refurbished binoculars are just amazing! These Nikon binoculars are now the best I have in my small collection of binoculars. I do have the cheapest Fujinon 7x50 that are very nice for the price, but the Prostaff 5 have a noticeable edge over them. The Fujinon are very clear and bright, don't get me wrong...but looked at the night sky and the Prostaff 5 glass was better. You can't even tell the Nikons were refurbished. Looks brand new.

I like these binoculars but I thought the image would be crisper. The antifog system works on the inside of the binos, but if you take them from the house to outside in winter the exterior of the lens will fog up. No big deal but I wasn't expecting that... just wipe it off with a soft clean microfiber lens cleaning cloth and you're good to go. I bought a shoulder harness for them as well which completely eliminates neck strain as the 12 x 50 binoculars are obviously heavier than smaller ones. My main beef is that the lens cover caps are not attachable to the binoculars and are easily lost, so I just put them in the case and leave them in the car when I'm using the binos.

About 5 years ago, I did my research and bought the Nikon PROSTAFF 5 Binoculars 12x50. They have worked flawlessly, feel comfortable in my hands and suffer no apparent distortion or chromatic aberration (a colored fringe around objects caused by different wavelengths of color which don’t converge at the same point when passing through a lens). After moving near a Bay, the need for a second pair developed, so I started to do more research and realized I already had an excellent pair of binoculars, so I bought the same thing. A little pricey but not outrageous and they work very well.

Very high quality lenses. Lighter and more easy to carry than I expected.

These aren't as good as Vortex Diamondback Binos. I wouldn't recommend them, I feel Nikon is not innovating and for the price is being beaten by competition.

These are great, I have been through two other pairs of Nikon binos in the last year and I think these are absolutely the best for my needs.Let me start off by saying that I use my optics for spot and stalk hunting in the west. I bought new 8X42 aculons last year and was very satisfied with them throughout the 2014 season. Eventually my desire to get a higher power set grew so I would not have to lug my spotting scope around as much. So I sold my aculons and bought 12x50 Nikon extremes, They were great optics and price wise until I found these for only a little more. When I compared the weight I was amazed that the prostaffs were almost half the weight and way less bulky. I returned the extremes and have been satisfied with these. Anyone looking at Nikon should really give the prostaffs a hard look, if you don't have the money for the monarchs this is the best way to go. the extremes are great but if you need to hike with your binos or carry them with all your other hunting gear the prostaffs can't be beat. I also tried to fog theses up and couldn't, this was a big problem with my aculons on cold mornings. for the power and objective lens combo these are worth way more than you pay..

I have owned several cheaper binoculars, bushnell tasco etc.... I had a pair of 12-22 zoom nikons that were ok to say the least. These are amazing, even with my glasses on the picture is wide and clear. No they're not Zeiss or Steiner but these are not thousands of dollars either. Hands down one of the best bang for buck binos anyone could own. I recieved them today and the first use was spotting deer at night with a bright light. I seen deer at over 500 yards that we never ever dreamed of seeing in the past. Dont hesitate these are worth twice the cost!!!!
