Only Fail-Safe is designed to lock in the open position when overheating occurs due to a failing cooling system component. This allows maximum coolant flow, thus preventing expensive engine damage.

I gave it four stars because of the complete la k of directions with it. My check engine light went on right before emissions testing. The code indicated it was a temperature issue. Researching google for my 2007 Chevy Malibu, this was usually the issue. I ordered the part, after looking for a while figured out where it was in the car engine, I was able to replace it on my own. My temperature gauge worked immediately and I passed my emissions. Installation ease depends on your vehicles location of the thermostat but if it is the same as mine, it is in the lower passenger side of the car.Side note: I am a 60 year old female who watched you tube to figure out how to change it. I saved myself $500 doing it myself. It was pretty easy so anyone who knows their way around basic tools should not have an issue.

2007 Pontiac G6 with 6-cylThis has fail safe so if a spring breaks it will be open. Original did not. When thermostat fails you often crack bloxk or blow head gasket..this prevents and GM should be ashamed they didnt use fail safe originally..cost them extra $1.50 .I replaced when i did waterpump at 139K.Original looks functional but for how long. Pain in ass to change but done and works.
