Ceiling fan downrods offer added flexibility in placing fans in the exact setting desired. Decorative 1/2-Inch diameter downrods are threaded on one end with pre-drilled holes on both ends. The threaded end of the downrod should be installed in the ball, inside the ceiling canopy. For optimum performance, Monte Carlo recommends that your ceiling fan is installed with the blades suspended between 8-Feet and 9-Feet above the floor. This downrod is in a beautiful Black and is suited for a ceiling height of 13-Feet with a suggested downrod length of 48-Inch. Whether its form and style or simple functionality, know that Monte Carlo sets the standard for exceptional quality.

The recommendations for ceiling fan height are outdated I think. Taller ceilings are the norm, and having a fan 8 feet up when you have a 12 foot ceiling is completely unnecessary. 10-11 feet is fine. I have a 15' ceiling, got this 4 foot extension, and I think anything lower would look odd. The ceiling fan is high quality Monte Carlo, so it's powerful and doesnt need to be set at such a low level to the floor.

Advertised as 5/8", when received it is almost 7/8". This is important for me bc was ordering it to use as durable curtain rod for my dressing room and now finials and brackets don't fit. 3 stars because otherwise fine for advertised application, if you don't specifically need 5/8".

Works ONLY with Monte Carlo fans that require 1/2" downrods. Monte Carlo fans will NOT work with the downrods you purchase at the big box home improvement stores!
