Why didn't I get it earlier? This works better than using the aluminum track. It may seem expensive at first because you need to get the clamp set that works with this, but it's actually cheaper in the long run if you make your jigs a lot. The only thing to note is the cutout is a big piece, if you are not comfortable cutting all at once, do it in 2 passes, I use a straight bit that is narrower than this bit for a shallow 1st pass to lessen the stress.

This bit is similar to standard dovetail bits, but the additional round over top creates smoother grooves in jigs and various workshop projects. The grooves are cut cleanly and the clamps work well in them. The bit has remained sharp after cutting numerous grooves.

The bit comes sharp and ready to use. It's the quality level I expect from Microjig. I love that they have more than one size to their dovetail bits. I used this with the 8mm bit for a neat decorative patter on the show faces of a small console table. clean cuts which is all I can ask for!

As with most of the microjig products I have they have been top quality and this is no different. Works perfectly with the matchfit products.

This router bit is specifically designed to work with the Matchfit system, and does well at that. When ordering, I thought it was a rounding limitation (1/4" and 12 mm options were given), but this is specifically for a 12 mm router. I tried it in my 1/2" Ridgid router. It cut impressively well at first, but then kept lowering. I quickly realized that my router collet could not be tightened enough to hold this in place without a shim or other adapter. If you have a 12 mm collet, you'll love this system; if you have a 1/2", you may be in for some adapting or headaches.

I own multiple microjig products which i have never had a complaint with and this bit is no different. The bit is perfectly sized for the clamps and miter-bar set. The bit is very sharp and high quality.

For a router bit, this is pretty expensive but worth it if you use the matchfit clamps on your workbench. What makes this bit so special? It leaves rounded corners, both at the bottom of the dovetail and the top. At the bottom, this makes it 10 times easier to keep the groove clean. I didn't realize this until I used it. My initial grooves were made with a standard dovetail bit and wood shavings would be harder to clean out due to the sharp corner at the bottom. I would vacuum then use a brush then vacuum again. It does leave a rounded edge at the top. I suppose that would make it less likely to break. The one thing that was frustrating was the packaging. I did see the arrows but didn't realize I had to cut the label. They should have a cut line on the label. That was confusing and I thought about breaking the case open but after a little time, I did open it just fine.

This is a high quality, specialized bit for producing grooves in a workbench top to accommodate MICROJIG, Matchfit clamps and other hardware to hold work in place. It is well made, high in quality, with several custom features to improve it's performance.Starting with the shank end, it has a collet laser safety line etched at the proper router seating depth to prevent possible vibration, or the bit coming undone at high speed and another set up line at the bottom of cutting area to show proper ¾” routing depth. It has a small radius at top and bottom of cutters to improve overall loading strength and combat tear out of the grooves in use. It has a yellow painted bit-head to inhibit dust buildup, has very sharp cutting edges and comes in a hard plastic case with a twist opening top (be sure to cut around the seam between the case and the top before trying to open). It is a pretty sophisticated tool not meant for cutting dovetails at all, but as stated above, making grooves to hold clamps and fixtures in place to support projects being worked on. The carbide cutting blades are laid back at an 8-deg. angle to produce a shearing cut for smoother work and the dovetail angles themselves are made at a 14deg. angle to produce the maximum holding strength in wood etc. MICROJIG makes individual units or sets of tapered, plastic pieces sized and tapered to run in the dovetail slots carrying threaded hold downs as well as other fixtures for different applications . They also produce complete clamps and systems to go with the above. One thing to watch....there are several sizes of shank diameter and this one is 6mm which is slightly smaller than the 1/2" diameter in most of the routers we are now using. I read one review where they got by in a Bosch unit with it's 1/2" chuck, so decided to try it with my DeWalt. I didn't work!! I have a 6mm collet ordered for it. I plan on using this system along with dog holes on any benchtops I make in the future. Properly used they can increase shop efficiency and make the job easier...and I would recommend them to anyone for their value in doing this.
