It was a gift for my sister-in-law for her birthday. She loves the show and mentioned that she wanted those, so I got them. These are for practice, not actual self-defense, I would never recommend trying to stop a sword with these, although who gets attacked by swords? They seem to be pretty durable and have a nice weight to them. They're a great buy for the price.

I didn't expected that they would be in steal FOR REAL. Usually, others make you believe but now it's real steal! :D They're heavy and they're perfect for cosplay, just as I wished for. ^_^

I think that most people who gave these a less than five star review simply don't understand how length works. The average 'real world' sai should measure about 1-3 inches past your elbow when held up to your forearm from your palm, and usually are about 21 inches in length. These 15 inch sai are not made to that specification, so if that's what you're expecting you will be disappointed. That said - I purchased these mainly for practice and recreation when doing sai katas in my living room, which has a lower ceiling I kept accidentally hitting with my larger pair. They are well-made, and only about a pound each. The handle is small, in keeping with the overall 15", but I have smaller palms so it wasn't an issue for me. They are octagonal and the pair I got have small points at the ends where the octagon-edges met -- I wouldn't call it sharp or particularly dangerous, just something to look out for if you plan to give these to a younger user. They're good for practice and durable enough that they can actually be used against other martial arts practice weapons or thrown around by an excited youngster without too much worry. They also look quite nice and shiny and are easy to care for. If you're looking for a pair of sai specifically to cosplay your Elektra or Raphael character or Ninja costume in general these are perfect for that kind of display. Clocking in at less than $20, you're only paying about $10 per sai, which is a good value for the product you're receiving.Again, as long as you understand what you're getting, this is perfect for those needs; if you want/need a 'full-blown' set, you need to get the 21 inch and up pairs.

Ok, so a few things to know about these Sais:1. "Octagon" means, literally, that they are octagonal. All the way to the tip. It's not crazy and angular, but it's a real thing. They are NOT ROUND. Please do not buy them thinking they are round because they aren't.2. They're short. 15" is the right size for small people. The 12 year old I bought them for thinks they are great. For me they'd be ridiculously small.3. They're heavy. They're solid steel. This is both good and bad.4. The wrapping is great, the styling is great.None of those things above are negatives, for me and the little ninja who wields them (not a misnomer, he scales walls and has a multi-degree black belt). But they might be for you. My own sais are much longer (20") and MUCH lighter (brushed aluminium), but I also don't actually try to catch sword blades with them... so that's a thing.

Got this for niece for xmas. Metal seems ok. Not stainless more of a cheap metal coated in Shiney finish. Don't think grips will hold up well but it's full tang so easy fix. Not sharp so great for practicing.
