Threader is nice and loop stays open after inserting into bobbin tip. bodkin is nice and sharp with a sturdy handle. whip finish seems up to standard but is on the large side. bobbin is ok but i personally do not like the shape. the disk prevents me from holding it the way I normally hold bobbins and also does not slide down into my tool holder. scissors are ok, sharp and easy to open but holes are a bit too small (i feel like i have average sized hands, wear a men's medium or large in most gloves). I bought this set to travel with so i don't lose my good tools and for the price i can't complain much.

I've been tying flies (fresh water and salt water) casually on and off for the last 30 years. I don't claim to be highly skilled. Nevertheless, over the years more than one brain damaged fish has taken a fly I tied. That being said, my fly tying tools and materials have been cobbled together over the years. I ordered this LIXADA fly tying tool kit to freshen up my old tools (see photo) and add a few new tools (bobbin threader and whip finisher) that I have always needed but never got around to ordering. I'm a budget conscious kind of guy so to get this five-tool kit for a touch over $13 is a great deal in my book. Go into any snooty, high end fly shop and you can get the same tools for about $50! I tried out the scissors with my favorite litmus test. I figure if the scissors can cut super-braid that is not held under tension, they have got to be sharp. These scissors passed the test as you can see in the photo. I also photographed the use of the bobbin threading tool on some orange thread for tying egg patterns. Although I didn't have time to photograph it, I'm looking forward to using the whip finisher to quickly finish/secure the heads of the many bead-head wooly buggers I need to get tied for spring and summer fishing. This is a great gift idea for someone who is just getting into fly tying. Five stars.

This is a great little tool kit for fly tying. I've tied my own flies for years and these seem to be quality instruments for building flies.
