Okay the bottom line is this modification riser kit comes with general directions but it doesn’t cover the things that could go sideways. I chose to use Carter roller bearing style guides in this modification and for the life of me I couldn’t get the guides to line up on the blade because when I locked the upper guide support post down with the set screw non the whole thing would shift to the side and the bearings could not be aligned as the should be. I tried all the ideas I could come up with and it was a no go . I checked the alignment of the upper saw body to the lower body I’m mean everything but the one that worked . The V groove in the upper guide post looks like it’s evenly machined in but it’s not so on a nothing left to try I disassembled the upper guide assembly and flipped the guide post over . ( use the shorter guide post to push the longer post out so as not to loose the spring and detent ball out of the post guide hole) I flipped the new longer post over and reassembled the guides lined everything up and when I locked the post in position it didn’t shift like before and everything lined up. I did see a video where a guy had the same problem and said don’t buy the saw because of the problem but he didn’t solve the problem so sometimes you just got to stop think it over and try one more thing and success. Anyway my new Jet bandsaw 14” with riser kit works great after some frustrations and the reason I only gave it 4 stars. I recommend this upgrade but only for the mechanicaly inclined.

This is a great kit for the 1 hp Jet band saw. If you need the one for the 3/4 hp use: Jet 708717A Riser Block (search Amazon for 708113A. Factory Authorized Outlet was a great supplier- see below notes.)The only difference between the kits is the 1 HP kit has a thicker guide post and it does not fit the 3/4 HP band saw.If you get the wrong kit like I did, don't bother to call Jet - I had hoped to do a direct swap for the parts but their parts list didn't even have the right part numbers so the front desk couldn't help me. I waited for about 30 minutes for someone from tech support to answer questions about the guide post. They never answered and on a call-back, I couldn't get through.Because my Amazon search didn't pull up the correct kit (I guess I didn't have the right terms) I Googled and found it at FAO (I now see it listed on Amazon) and they sent it out immediately. Thank you FAO!The kit was easily installed and I love the increased capacity with the Laguna105" blade which cuts through 12" Maple with ease.

I just completed making this work with a 14" Craftsman bandsaw. The alignment pins on the riser block do not align with those on the bandsaw, but by making a copy of the pins on the Craftsman saw and the pins on the riser block, I was able to make it work.My recommendation: Cut a piece of thin cardboard to the size of the riser block mounting surface. Lay it over the pins, then tap it with a hammer to transfer the pin location onto the cardboard. Tape the patter cardboard to the surface to be drilled.Starting with a 1/16" drill drill holes where the pins go about 3/8" deep, remove the template then continue using larger drills until you get to a 1/4 or 5/16 Inch hole size. At that point you can mount the riser block and finish installation. You will need to make a couple of other adjustment as well. For example, the blade guard will need another hole drilled into it and the power switch panel will need a little trimming, but it all works out.

This is such a great addition to the 14 inch Jet bandsaw that I'm surprised Jet doesn't just make it standard on all their 14 inch saws. I was able to install it by myself, and I'm an old guy. I rigged a rope from the ceiling to support the top arm of the saw, disconnected the bolt, and lowered it to the floor. After that, the installation goes very easy and straightforward. Putting the top arm back on was the opposite of taking it off, but be sure that you can tie off the rope so you can use both hands to tighten the bolt. The only negative is the blade that ships with the riser block - it's not very good. Buy yourself a selection of Timber Wolf blades to use for resawing.Having the extra resaw capability if really nice and increases the usefulness of the saw. I recommend this accessory.
