We needed a boat hook for our new craft. Glad we picked this one.

Really helpful guiding boat away from rocks when we were stopping for shore lunch and when leaving the same areas. Used hook to knock off some snagged lures without getting too close. Fits easily into rod locker. More durable than I expected but you need to realize it's aluminum and not steel or hard wood.

This boat hook as always performed well and I have 2 aboard. Bought this one as a replacement that went overboard and couldn't be recovered. I like the fact that it is long (8 ft) but can collapse down to 40 inches. This gives you many more options to store it away than a 2-section or non-collapsible hook. Be sure to collapse and store away without locking the sections. Only lock them after extending them. Rinse occasionally with fresh water, if you are using it in salt water. It is sturdy for a 3-stage boat hook, but it will never be as sturdy as a 2-section boat hook or one that doesn't collapse.

This product arrived properly packaged. However I obviously received a returned and/or previously used item. The labels were worn, and the aluminum barrel was scratched and abraded. It's completely usable, and I'm not about to return it, but if I buy a new item I expect a new item. Other than that it appears to be a sturdy and very useful item.

The pole is good but as the other comments state, the tip comes right off. The first one didn't even make it to our boat before loosing the tip. They sent for a replacement and I actually looked at the tip and it made no sense. The pole has screw on threads but the tip is just a smooth vinyl tip that looks like it's there to protect the threads on pole. It's made to come with a screw on tip but it doesn't have one.

I have not used this particular pole yet. A friend let me use his boat while I was camping at the lake he lives near. I wish I had the pole while I was out boating. I have used a similar pole in the past, when we owned a boat. They are great for slowing the boat when you approach a dock or pulling yourself up to that dock rather than having to move the boat against the dock under it's own power. This is a little thank you gift for my friend. Hopefully he and his family will find it as useful as the version I had in the past. This pole is made in the USA and looks well built. It is pretty hard to find well built products, since so much manufacturing has gone to China and other countries. One of the main reasons I chose this version is because it collapses down to 3.5', and will therefore fit into just about any of the compartments in the boat. The pole I used in the past was longer and it was a bit harder to store and use. The Garelick looks like it will be ideal. It is easy to unlock the sections, set the length, and tighten the sections once again. The hook is stamped with directions to send the pieces back to the manufacturer for replacement, if it ever breaks. It is stamped with a lifetime guaranty. I don't see how you would remove the old hook, but I doubt the hook would break under normal use. The other end has a nice rubber handle to hang onto. Our old hook/pole would double as a squirt gun if you opened it under water and then closed it. The water shot out of the hole in the handle :)

Made in the US this should last a lifetime. Not even in the same category as those cheap $20 sticks. This hook gives my wife and other non-seasoned boaters a great deal of confidence when they approach a dock or a slip with our 26' boat. Also great for retrieving items from the water, lost hat, knee board, etc.I love and highly recommend it.

I have a 17 foot fishing boat and didn't want a boat hook that was too big, but I also didn't want one that was too short when extended. This pole is the perfect size! When contracted, it is short enough to fit easily into the side compartment, but gets long enough to reach what we need it to.The pole is very strong when extended. It does not flex and the twist lock feature holds the sections in place very tightly. The plastic hook is also very strong and the shape is convenient to work with. The rubber tip seems like it can pop off easily, but so far ours has stayed in place.Case-in-point for how well this boat hook works: there was a log in our local river that became an obstruction and had already been hit by a few boats. We used this hook to lasso a rope around the log, tow the log and then used the hook again to remove the rope. My story may sound easy enough, but it was actually much tougher to accomplish because of several factors working against us such as: the heavy current, strong wind, and other obstructions around when we parked the log and tried to remove the rope at a distance while keeping the boat from hitting surrounding objects. This is one great boat hook and I highly recommend it.
