This is a great solution if you want to swap forks without relying on a starnut to tighten down the top cap. I’m using it on my 26ā€ BMX and it has been perfect.

I went to a new handlebar and stem on my gravel bike and wanted to go deeper into the carbon steerer tube. ThisFSA Headset Compression Plug form Stradalli did work nicely to get a little deeper and provide more support to allow tightening down the handle bar stem without worry of as much of the carbon steer tube being unsupported from the inside. Instructions are good. Read them a couple of times and follow the proper sequence and you will be all set.

Definitely a light-duty product! Quality is ok, I suppose, but will not install on my bike!

First: YES, it works with MTB. I contacted FSA about the discrepancy between their website product listing and the instructions. The site says Road and MTB; the instructions say No MTB. Joe Ott of Full Speed Ahead replied, "The gripping area of the expander plug does not grab well enough in an aluminum steerer tube to stay reliably tight in an off road application. That would be why the instructions would say not to use for mountain bikes. Most mountain bike forks have an alloy or steel steerer tube. If you are using a fork that has a carbon steerer tube it will work just fine." Beyond that it's a good design; easy to understand, install, and adjust. Typical high FSA quality. A rubber plug to keep out rain and sweat would be nice. I installed it on the carbon steerer of my Fuji Jari gravel bike.

This is a good design. You can adjust where the expansion plug sits in the head tube by a cm or so- this lets you have the plug at the same level as your stem. It's nice to have the plug at the same height as the stem because there is less chance of crushing the carbon steerer and it adds a little strength to the whole system. Some of the expansion plugs that I have seen sit on top the steerer tube and then when you tighten them they naturally expand up leaving a gap between the top of the steerer and the lip of the plug, this one doesn't do that- much better design. I ordered from Greenville Custom and they shipped fast. Good experience and good product.
