My old FT232 TTL converter was on its last legs so I was happy to get a new converter. I've used this many times now to program boards like ESP12F. FT232 is great, widely compatible, and being able to switch between 3.3V and 5V logic is a must (which this can do easily by moving the jumper). The only downside to this is that it's mini USB and it's 2024. There are converters that will plug straight into USB or use other connections.

This USB to TTL serial converter offered by HUAREW uses a FT232RL chip, the gold standard for TTL serial converters. The board design has been used by multiple manufacturers. It offers the option of having either 3.3V or 5V voltage levels. My main gripe with this board design is the small labelling of the input pins. I always attach a label on the back with the pinout written larger. The board worked without issues. I used it to program an old Arduino pro mini board successfully. The price is very reasonable.
