This is a decent headset at a fair price BUT NOTE IT IS NOT SEALED BEARING as advertised. It’s already installed and will work fine but be aware the item description is INCORRECT.

At first seems to be high quality, but once on the bike, different story.Poor tolerances led to lots of rattling and stem / fork continuously loosening up, especially after aggressive breaking.Replaced it for a Cane Creek headset, and all issues disappeared. Spend a little more, do not waste your money.

Steel is real! I have a 1998 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo project bike. I originally purchased an FSA Orbit MX alloy/sealed bearing headset because it was lightweight and a good price (and it came in blue!). But, oh man did I have problems with that thing! It simply would not adjust properly. Long story short: lightweight alloy parts and sealed bearings aren't always the better product! So, I purchased this old school FSA Hammer to replace the alloy Orbit MX. Wow! What a difference! I had no issues whatsoever putting this headset on. The Hammer headset has beefy steel cups and a super durable steel lower fork crown race. I suspect my original problem was the flimsy alloy race that came with the Orbit MX headset. Problem solved and I'm happy. BTW, my headset did not come with the "Hammer" logo, just one "FSA" logo on the lower cup. No biggie.

Unsealed bearings are not a deal breaker for me since I tend to not ride when things are muddy, too much work cleaning after for me. But the add does clearly say sealed bearings so buyer beware. It went in great and I am comfortable with greasing every now and again. For the price the quality seems very good.

Nothing fancy, not expensive, but does the job of a 'headset' well. ...Seriously, it's cheap and good. Can't go wrong with it.I've installed a couple of these. First one went into the frame 'straight' on the first try (both sides) with a DIY headset press. But on the second frame, it always seemed to go in crooked. On my 3rd attempt of pressing it in, I decided just to smack it level with a rubber mallet, and it worked! Just kept working the mallet around the circumference until it was all installed.Once installed, I can't feel any 'play' in the fork. All is tight-and-good.

Great value headset for the price. With a headset press tool it installed ok. It was tight in a chromoly frame, but worth the effort.

If a bike has a shot headset, this will already be an upgrade for it. Comes packaged in a retail box. A fanboy sticker is included, not pictured since I have no use for it. It's no suprise that this fair priced item is "Ships from and sold by" big man Jeff himself, costing only dollars more than cheaper jobbers. Don't pay attention to the poor review of 1mm too large. Yes, majority of the components by design are supposed to have an i.d. that is slightly bigger than then o.d. of your fork. That's because it's the crown race and the tapered compressing ring is what hugs your fork. Poor reviewer did not install this quality product correctly and should have had their LBS take care of them. Those that want to DIY, take as many pics as needed as you pull it apart out of the box so it can be reassembled properly, or else you too will have the same fate as poor reviewer.

Worked PERFECTLY for my 03 Trek. For me it was fairly easy to install, and even without the relevant special tools, but just be aware that without said specialty tools (technically 3. A tool to remove "cups," a tool to press in the "cups," though can easily make your own with long bolt, wide washers, and a nut, and a tool for seating bearing race on fork), unless you're fairly mechanically inclined and have access to variety of tools, possibly enlist help or take to shop. And use grease/lube to aid in pressing if you do attempt yourself.Great product! GREAT VALUE! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND, if you have 1 1/8" steerer tube, non-tapered, and bearings of relevant size (can't remember the number at present). I wasn't 100% on my steering tube width. As it's older, I feared it was 1". But the bearing sizes matched mine, so went for it assuming my steer tube WAS 1 1/8" and yup, like I said, perfection!

Since I had a hard time finding a headset for the particular bike I was building, I chose the Full Speed Ahead kit because the dimensions, we're very close to I actually needed#. The end caps, had to be machined, to remove a slight amount of material, from the OD of the end that goes into the frame. This was a very slight inconvenience for me, however once I got the parts back from the machine shop, they went in perfectly! And they function perfectly! High quality headset from Full Speed Ahead. Quality merchandise at a reasonable price, I just wish there were more stickers with their logo in the Box!
