I went to replace my faucet freestanding tub and when I pulled everything out, I saw that the installer didn't have any sort of ring to keep the pipe in place. You really are supposed to install these under the tile but since that wasn't possible, I installed it over the tile. It is a perfect fit. It works great.

This is an amazing part, to bad the actual builder doesn’t know what parts to use, we had to have it installed ourselves correctly.Without this correct drain system the run cannot drain the overflow, but most builders figure you won’t figure this out until it’s been a year or so and they are long gone.This is a necessary part for a free standing tub and works great
