All but the smallest size fit my ferrets. I have a large male and female plus another two female that a very petite. None have been able to slip these harnesses like they usually do. I do think the smallest harness in the set would fit a rat or large hamster.

I have an approx 8 week old squirrel. I bought this set of 3 (different sizes) and was able to get it on her with little difficulty (compared to the other style available). The little plastic clip snagged some of her hair, it is a small clip- my fingers don't work all that great, so I had some difficulty. I like that the arm holes are larger and allow for more nonrestrictive motion. The material is soft but thick. I like that these come in 3 sizes, the smallest one fits perfectly and as she grows I have the larger sizes for her. After I got it on her she went about her squirrely business, less bothered w/this harness vs. the other style. I wish these had tiny bells and came in different colors but that's not really a big deal. She seems to be more comfortable in this one. I have added sense of security knowing she's comfortable and she can explore her environment and go for "rides" with me.

I've tried several different versions of these harnesses and even tried making my own but somehow my squirrels were always able to escape from them . These are the only ones they have not been able to get out of . You get 3 different sizes and each one is a perfect fit for that stage of development, and when they outgrow one , the next size up is a perfect fit. They are easy to put on , arms straight out , into the holes then snap in the back so it does not stress out the animal like more complex harnesses yet holds them in safely and securely. Made from high quality, durable leather, with one plastic clip around neck and Velcro around waistline. My squirrels are able to move naturally without being affected by the harness. Older animals are more difficult to harness train but if you start then young they will associate it with being able to get out and play , my squirrels even hold their arms out so it's easier for me to put the vest on .

I got these little harnesses for both rats and reptiles. They work well on dumbo rats, young bearded dragons, young savannah monitors, and large leopard geckos. The little chain part of the leash prevents the rat from chewing on it, but make sure you keep the ribbon part away or they will chew on that. The rat was a bit curious about her harness and tried to chew on it after doing a bit of yoga, but I was able to correct her so just keep an eye on flexible critters!
