It’s a very basic foam cutting tool, but the base material is excellent, the fence rolls on bearings and tightens down well. Wish it had an indicator LED to let you know it’s ON, and it’s a good idea to think about ventilation/masks for the invariable fumes. I use it on the stovetop (lights and a fume hood built-in!) but you may not have as forgiving a spouse!Purchased mine used from Amazon and am very satisfied.

I bought this vs a proxxon simply based on the price, and also considered making a homemade one.Ive only just received it, but so far I am happy with the purchase. I tried the wire cutter last night and already am pleased with the results. I ran into a couple things I wanted to share.First, the measurements are only CM, not inches. I might purchase a sticker that shows inches to stick on the machine. (pic 4)Second, with no temp control, the wire gets hot quickly. If trying to cut lines (for DND dungeon tiles, bricks, etc) they come out very fat. I quickly found a workaround by placing the foam against the wire with the machine off, then turning it on and pressing the wire into it quickly you can get the super thin lines (pic 3)3rd, when cutting my lines I noticed the wire was every so slightly misaligned. I rectified this (almost fully) by turning the washer that the wire is tied to underneath the machine so that the wire was coming out of the right side of the hole. (pic 1 is from above, pic 2 is washer from underneath). All in all, I believe this machine will work very well for my terrain building purposes. The temp control would be nice, but I will do without. Its half the price of the proxxon so its the price I pay lol.

I decided to upgrade from a cheap wire cutter to this product for making RPG tabletop foam terrain and it works beautifully. I was surprised that it was crafter mostly from wood, but the wire heats up instantly and cuts like butter. It even has less of a smell and fumes than the cheaper cutter tools. It was also very easy to setup, very worth the price if you are into making arts and crafts or other foam objects!

As the tirle says it come assemble you only have to cut the tape at the top loosen the nob to straighten the arm and tighten the cutting wire, plug it in and you are ready to work.

Does it’s job but compared to the Hurcules wire cutter that I’ve owned in the past, this one is pretty basic. I miss the functionality of my old one. While it works fine, it’s not ideal for precise cutting.

The measurements are a bit funky so you need to make sure its adjusted perfectly. There's spare wire in the spool if you break it

I read some reviews that said it wobbled too much, that’s user error. You need to tighten the wire before the first use, you should be able to play a note on it. Pluck the wire like a guitar string and listen for a nice ring. The right edge of the foam was cut on a table saw and the left was cut by the hot wire. The wire cut was way smoother. The only thing I didn’t like was the markings on the bed are in metric or something. Definitely not inches. Not a huge deal since I use a jig for repeat cuts and usually measure it with a tape anyway.

This would probably be useful for small projects but wouldn’t work for long pieces with a angled cut. It wasn’t ideal for my project type so i returned it.

Machine works great after a few failed attempts. Gave it 4 stars cause they don't tell your the the measurements on the table are in CM and not in inches so I had to measure out my own spacing from the wire and mark with a marker, also the wire is cheap broke 6 time in first hr of use, would replace, I bought the thinnest guitar string and it's been working great since. But overall a good machine for the price.
