The gun is kind of a novelty item. It's cool, and it works, but is it something for you or the dog? Only you can decide. It's basically a string loaded plunger. The plunger spring handle has different detents depending on how far you want the ball to travel. The ball fits securely at the front (barrel) of the gun, and the plunger stricks it forcing it from the gun. This of how a real gun strikes the primer on the bullet. It works, it doesn't launch super far, but far enough the dog has to run after it. It's well made, and is very sturdy plastic, Should last for a long time. If you want something to launch a tennis ball across a large yard, this it not the product you want.

Gotta say I am pretty disappointed in this RSSLygaeonix Dog Ball Launcher. The launcher, with the spring striker pulled to its last stop only sends the ball about 15 to 20 feet, max. I got this because I have shoulder problems, which can make throwing balls for my dog a bit painful, but I can easily throw balls further than this launcher can send them...and make a lot less noise while doing it! This thing is really noisy, with a loud metallic thunk of the spring every time it is activated.I got this primarily intending to use it at the beach, where we have lots of space for my dog to chase balls, but this launcher simply doesn't send the ball far enough to justify its use and the nerve wracking noise it makes every time you use it. I appreciate that some folks come to the beach for the peace and quiet, and this thing eventually becomes a noise polluter. While it appears to be well and solidly made, the spring it uses is clearly not very strong. As for its appearance, even though it is not very intimidating looking, I am also a bit concerned how some people might react and call the cops because of the shape of this thing, and as I live in a state where much of the populace is sensitive to things that are similarly shaped, I don't need the aggravation and embarrassment of having a visit by the police while I am trying to have fun with my dog at the beach. Anyone with half a brain could see what the device is, especially if I am using it to fling tennis balls, but some folks don't have that much gray matter at their disposal. I will only use this if there aren't many people on the beach that day.I would only recommend this product if you aren't likely to be hassled by the cops and only if you only want to send the balls a relatively short distance. It still might be a great help to those with issues with their arms and shoulders that are more severe than mine are, but who still want to play with their dog. I will use this when my shoulders are feeling especially sore but I still want to take my dog to fetch some balls. Overall, I would say this product has limited actual practicality. The price point on it is WAY too high for what its capabilities are. Almost anyone can throw a ball further than this device can send them, even a child.I give it 2 of 5 Stars, as it is solidly made and seems durable, but I must deduct 3 Stars for its limited range and practicality for its intended use, as well as it being well overpriced.

My dog is very high energy and sometimes when she wants to play fetch, it can be really hard because my arms get tired before she does. Also, the way our house is set up you have to throw the balls through a doorway or two and if you don't get the aim just right, it will hit the doorframe and bounce behind the TV or something. With this, I can always get my aim spot on and the ball goes faster and further, which helps her use up all that extra energy at the end of the day, without wearing my arms out!

RSSLygaeonix Dog Ball Launcher for Pet, Include 23.4 inches Thrower for Two Tennis Ball:This things looks cool and is fun to use. I have heath issues that can really limit my play time with our dog as throwing far is just not possible for me. This allows me to play without being in pain. I use from my elevated back porch which helps get the ball far as this will not launch too incredibly far on it's own.

Update, tennis ball immediately deflated when my dog had it in his mouth for less than 2 minutes. Bummer! My dogs are a little afraid of how loud the noise is when I shoot it, but they love retrieving the ball and this saves my arm. It goes about 25-30 feet, which is far enough to wear my dogs out in the time I am tired of doing it. Not worth the $30 it cost. Please update the quality of the tennis balls!
