Having an acurate PH reader is very important to me because I make my own soaps, creams, cosmetic creams for my household. I spent more on this one because I hoped it would provide a higher level of acuracy, but it didnt. The reviews are mostly superficial, in my opinion, as they do not go to real accuracy of the product. Just sticking the stick in your product and getting a reading is not enough. That just tells you the battery works. Understand this. I can understand if its a little off, but come on! Such a waste of time. So disappointed:(

I use this meter to keep track of the pH when dying yarn and fabrics. It works well out of the box and I compared the reading to another meter I have. The readings are very close to one another so while there is a margin of error, it is acceptable for my purposes. The calibration instructions are severely lacking, however, with the instructions being identical for each of the three calibration test pH pots. That might be okay, but the unit doesn't follow along with the instructions. Once you calibrate the first time, it doesn't change for the other calibrations. I ended up resetting to factory default and it worked okay again. The unit works well, but you might want to find instructions online or somewhere.

Making sourdough bread apparently requires a lot of chemistry and I got the pH meter for my mom in her new quest to bake sourdough from scratch. She said it seems accurate, as she's compared it in liquids with pH strips.

So far I'm pretty happy with this meter. It beats trying to use the pH strips for my cheese. It was supposed to come calibrated so I haven't actually tested it in the solutions but I guess I better. I did test it side by side with ph strips and I thought it did just fine.Granted, I wouldn't use this in a laboratory, but for my home cheese making it's just fine.

This is a very interesting pH measuring device. It comes with two identical pH probes, three sachets of powder to prepare three different pH Calibration Solutions (pH=4.01, 6.86, and 9.18), a tiny screwdriver, and a very small instruction booklet. The first thing I wanted to do was to calibrate the instrument using shelf-stable pH buffer solution I had bought, but after reading the very small instruction booklet, I found that is simply not possible. That is because the instrument ABSOLUTELY MUST be calibrated using the three different pH Calibration Solutions one must prepare with the three included sachets of powder. This is necessitated by the fact that the pH calibration process is hard coded into the device's firmware and cannot be changed. Why would anyone do this? Interesting, very interesting.Since the instrument came with a replacement pH probe, I removed the pH probe installed on the instrument so that the replacement pH probe could also be tested. I immediately noticed that the replacement pH probe did not have the O-ring to seal the pH probe to the body of the instrument. Did they really expect that I would/could remove the teeny tiny O-ring from the original pH probe and re-install it on the replacement pH probe? This is not very likely due to the fragile nature of such O-rings. Moving on, I found the replacement pH probe extremely difficult to install on the instrument body. I did succeed, eventually, with great care and I determined that the connector in the pH probe was mis-aligned in the pH probe body by the manufacturer. Nevertheless, I was finally able to get it installed and calibrated.I then went to measure several solutions for pH, including the pH buffer solutions I bought. The data obtained was not steady using either probe. Thinking back to my undergraduate B.S. degree in Chemistry, I treated each pH probe with a KCL electrode storage solution and the problem got better after some time (about 30 minutes). This begs the question, "Why were the probes not stored in a KCL solution?" Every pH probe I have ever purchased or installed came stored in a KCL solution. Finally, I reinstalled the original pH probe (the one WITH the O-ring), turned the instrument off, covered the probes with the supplied plastic sleeves, and put everything back into the box. I will be looking for a way to store the pH probes in the KCL solution in the future, I will order more of the REQUIRED pH Calibration Solution sachets, and I will study the very small instruction booklet, again. Perhaps I may even discover what the tiny screwdriver provided is to be used for. This could have been a much better experience. I am not sure just how useful this instrument will turn out to be. I am not very happy with this product.

First and foremost, they claim the unit is calibrated from the factory, which is a lie. Mine gave readings all over the place from 6 to 8 pH in distilled water. Second, they give you calibrating "powder", which has to be mixed with ionized water in order to be effective as a calibrating tool. Completely useless. I gave up on this unit and ordered a pH meter from APERA, which included calibration SOLUTION, not powder, which made setting up and taking accurate measurements quick and easy. And they DIDN'T lie to me about the unit being pre-calibrated from the factory - the manual says calibrate before you use it, and store it with some of the calibration solution in the cap to maintain sensitivity.Either way, the ease of use on the APERA unit blew this piece of crap away. I threw it in the garbage, where it belongs.

Don’t really care for product. Can’t use on hot food. Instructions are pretty worthless. The reading is so up and down. Not too functional as I’d rate the quality as poor.

This probe is mediocre at best. If you need accuracy, don't trust this probe. It is not worth the cost.
