I was able to use it right away, since it came with the rope attached. Pulled a large tree limb to the edge of a pond, with it, and then used an excavator to pull it out of the pond. It was that heavy, but the grabble hook and rope was strong enough to pull it through the water.

I bought this because I needed to retrieve several broken branches from a pond following a bad storm. The smaller ones, I was able to hook and pull out by hand. The larger ones, I hooked and attached the end of the rope to a 4-wheel ATV to pull out. Some of these limbs were more like medium size trees. It was rugged enough to do all that and is still in great shape.

I bought it for my partners magnet fishing kit. The one that was included didn't seem durable enough so I found this one. Works like a charm for more pull.

The stainless steel folding claw grappling hook is small enough to fit in my ropes gear bag folded down .My only GRIPE is the useless carabiners not stainless steel just nickel coated and most YouTubers magnet fishing don't use a carabiner on to attach rope to hook as i's just something that can get snagged or caught on branches and submerged debris.Get rid of the low grade carabiners as soon as you open the box and but a proper rated one from a climb shop so you can attach your rope to a post or a tree.I recommend the hook highly , but the carabiners are a joke.

Honestly? I used it to pull a tree top I cut out of a neighboring tree. When I cut the tree top it got hung up, so the safest way to get it down was to grapple it and pull it down with the tractor and a long rope- the tree top was about 30’ long and about 10 - 12” across at the widest part- so translate to mean heavy, so I didn’t want to be any where close to it when it came down!Took me about three throws to get the hang of it, and hook the top. But once it was hooked it held tight.Worked great for me! Don’t know about climbing with it, I’m too old and fat for that!

The product doesn’t seem as rugged as I was hoping. While the pictures show the claws securely riveted to the frame, the product I received has them attached with a clevis pin with a snap ring. My experience with snap rings is that they can become dislodged with a well placed bump. Also the loops at the ends of the rope are minimally sewn together reducing my confidence in durability. The hook itself is well machined and seems heavy duty, except for the clevis pin issue. It’s “probably” fine for its intended purpose but using rivets (as they represent in their photos) would result in a more durable product in my opinion.

A great strong hook, but I can't break bit back down for transportation(hence only 4 stars), I'm sure the police wouldn't be too happy if I was caught carrying this, apart from that one fault it's a great to tool

The hook itself is very sturdy and well put together. The only thing I have to sat negatively against the hook itself is sometimes it will begin to turn and collapse. If it begins to do so you can tighten it right back up and its good to go.Now for the rope. The material is sturdy and is of great quality. However it is too thin to climb with. Even tying knots for grip, it was not thick enough. Now, the rope is great and very useful if you are grabbing things or tying stuff off. But for climbing I suggest at least a 20mm rope.Overall a quality purchase especially for the price. However you will need to sacrifice some extra cash for proper climbing rope
