I have purchased several curt hitchs for different vehicles over the years, and the longest one being in service over 12 years and never had any issues with the construction or issues with the powder coat finish until I got this one particular hitch that was purchased in 4/2016!!! This one hitch clearly wasnt prepped right at the factory for powder coating and after 7yrs the powder coating just flaked off in large chunks, It can take years before issues with powder coating can be seen!!! tried too work with curt customer support, they ended up ghosting me in the end!! Curt wouldnt stand behind there product In this case, wouldn't recommend buying another one based upon my experience with them on product warranty claims. They don't go above and beyond and make it right!! When things do go wrong.

This took me about an hour to install by myself on a 2014 Focus SE, and I took my time. A couple jack stands will help you, one to hold up the muffler and the other to hold up one side of the hitch while you're working on the other side. Only thing I did differently was instead of opening up the access holes, I ground a flat spot on both sides of both carriage bolt heads so that it would slip easily into the access hole.

Believe it or not, I mounted this thing by myself. Highly would not recommend doing so. Find the nearest stranger just for that extra hand. Other than that, the hitch had all of the components and the instructions were easy enough to follow. One of the bummers was having to purchase a 15/32 drill bit, which is hard enough to find. Let alone I will never use that bit again. The only reason I didn’t give this a 5 is because I am not impressed with the welds. Yeah they will probably hold up just fine, but they look ugly. I’m not the best welder, but I could have done a better job than what this came with. For what I use it for, it will get the job done.

I ordered this hitch for my wifes 2012 Focus. The day I planned to install it rained. So I ended up in my garage, jacked up the rear end, placed some stands in the rear and went to town.Laying completely on my back on the floor was a bit awkward to bolt the hitch in place the first time to mark the hole to drill. It's quite heavy trying to hold with one arm and turn the bolt with the other. I have long legs and ended up using my knee to hold it up while to turned the bolts. I made the mark with a sharpie and then unbolted the hitch.I had recently bought a new drill bit set from HarbourFreight and had the right bit that was required for the hole......only problem was that my chuck on the drill was 3/8" and the bit would not fit. So I improvised and used a 3/8" bit to make the hole ( I would recomend striking the mark with a awl or punch so that the bit will not walk all over the place while trying to drill and make the hole) Once I drilled the 3/8" hole I just worked the drill with the bit in the hole in a circular motion to enlarge the hole. I made the hole large enough that the bolt would then fit.Now the next part I did a little modification.....not to the frame of the car like the instructions recomends, but to the bolt flange itself. I grinded off about 1/5 of the flange to the point that I could then pass the bolt through the factory slot without having to cut into the frame itself. Then just run the fishwire just like they have it in the diagram. I did not have a torque wrench (next thing to buy in the wishlish) so i just tightened the bolts as tight as i could without stripping the nuts. And that's about it. Fairly simple to do. The instructions state 20mins or something and like 40 mins for a DIY.....I can tell you that it took me a little over 1hr to complete the job as i did it by myself on the floor of my garage on my back. I think you would have to be installing hitches all day as a pro get get the job done in 20mins. But nonetheless it's an easy job for someone that can turn a bolt and operate a drill. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.Next step.......the custom wiring harness.......stay tuned!

Excellent hitch! A few points. 2013 Focus Hatchback SE>>>>Step 3. says use a dremel to open up an access area to get the carriage bolt thru. Dont grind on your focus, just grind a little off the round head of the carriage bolt. it will go thru the existing access hole no problem>>>> find a little cardboard box to support the muffler while you do your dirty work.>>>> use anti seize on all the bolt threads>>>> and DO install the carriage bolts, I have heard of some people not installing those, those are 80% of the strength!!

The hitch from CURT was the best one out there that I could find for the price. It was delivered very timely and instructions for install were very good - took about 2 hrs. as I did it alone and time could be cut down significantly if you have someone to help lift and hold into place.
