Review for Crescent Pliers, 8", slip-joing, model HTZ28:Crescent seems to be on a mission to carefully re-design much of it's tool range, and these pliers continue that trend. Slip-Joint pliers are pretty standardized, and there isn't a lot of variation from manufacturer to manufacturer-- and honestly, for the intended use, there isn't a lot of need to change the basic design that has existed for many years. I've included some pictures of these next to a 'standard' set of similarly positioned PowerKraft pliers from several decades ago.So Crescent hasn't really changed this tool, as much as refined it to make it more useful. The machining and jaw matching is immaculate, and the fine cross-hatching on the jaw tips means you can grasp very small items firmly. Flush-mounted slip-joint bolt means one less thing to get in the way of getting the business-end of the pliers where you need it, as well as the thinning of the beefy jaws near the tip. The handles have been flattened from the more-standard curve, which allows a lot of pressure on the jaws without being a lot of pressure on your hands. The teeth in the central portion of the jaw are sharp, and allow for good grip on a variety of shape, both round (like pipe), and hex or square nuts. The price at the time of this review was $13.48, and they're a bargain at that price. If you're only going to own one set of pliers, this might well be the one you should get. I take on a number of tasks across multiple areas: these will probably become my go-to for standard use, but I'll still need my needle-nose, thin-noise, and bent-nose slip-joint pliers for specific tasks.

A slight upgrade over that first pair of pliers you had in your tool box-- as a kid. Some things never change, and neither did these. Still, its a good design. These are tough and should last you forever.

I am a Contractor and Business Owner and I am no stranger to tool, tooling or the Crescent/Wiss Brand. Everything I have got from them in the past I have been very happy with and they make some smart decisions when it comes to tool design. You may think, “eh, it's a pair of pliers. No big deal” but, I am here to tell you they do make some really well thought out design details and this pair is no exception. In fact, there is more than meets the eye here, initially. I have included pics to go along with this because that is the next best thing other than having them in hand. I recently picked up a new set of Crescent’s Linesman Pliers with red dipped handles because my intention was to build a “set” of pliers that are MINE for the house because every time I need something it is either on one of the trucks, the shot, a job site or one of the job trailers and nowhere near me or my personal home. BUT, after getting both….they might have to replace my personal field use tools and those “old tools” might have to come to the house instead. They are THAT Nice. Here’s A Bunch Of Stuff That I Really Like About These Slip Joint Pliers:-The slip joint pin is FLUSH to the face of the tool and it is only visible from one side. This makes getting in tight on something really easy with no bump to push the pliers out of where I want them to be.-The cross hatched teeth on the nose of the pliers are offset on each side and PERFECTLY ALIGN when the pliers are closed. It is so perfect and tightly matched that an imprint can be made on a single sheet of paper with ease.-The teeth on these are space right to grab a variety of sizes of fasteners and also sharp enough to provide a great dig in grip on other things.-BUILT IN WIRE CUTTERS are super handy to have on a set of slip joints and the cutters on this pair work EXCELLENT!-The pliers are SMOOTH and open and close effortlessly and they just feel like butter when operating them. Some of the little stuff that I noticed, during Actual Use, are some of my favorite things. Like the handle design. The handles are shaped in a way that promotes a natural grip and just “fits the hand” really well in a variety of use scenarios. The handles being dipped goes a long way toward longevity and durability and also provides a great non-slip grip. Also, the dipping is SUPER THICK! Holding these side by side with the new Crescent Linesman Pliers and it is easy to see how super thick the dipped coating is on these. Lastly they made these EASY TO IDENTIFY while in a pouch or tool bag because these are a different red than the red on their other pliers. It is brighter. Also, the handle has a slip joint icon printed on the ends and “Crescent” printed on the handle, both of which are not present on other Crescent Pliers with the Red dipped handle. So these are super easy to find at a glance….and by FEEL!Overall, these have some nuances that put them ahead of the pack and they are very well built and excellently engineered and thought about. I love all the features and the flush slip joint pin that doesn’t stick out. They open and close smooth and are incredibly strong pliers that I can get an excellent grip on stuff with both the pliers jaws and my hand on the handles. I GENUINELY Really Like These and I would order them again without hesitation. I would recommend these. These are great slip joints! A++++!

They're pliers. They work perfectly as such. That's about all we're looking for in pliers, right?

Seriously great set of pliers, i dont have a single complaint which is rare.... the slip joint action is nice and tight and the length of the handle is perfect in my hand. they have great grip and allow for great control of the tool and the lever action is just right. wire cutters are handy but not necessary but not gonna complain at all, again.... handy. I generally use Klein for all my hand tools but i havent seen they offer a set like these. the quality of these is right there with Klein at half the price. not much more to say except if ur in the market u should get these.... no fluff here.

These Crescent 8-inch slip joint pliers are the definition of a classic tool. Crescent's been making quality tools for ages, and these pliers show why they're still a top name in the business. They're like the Swiss Army knife of pliers – perfect for all kinds of jobs around the house and garage.Just the other day, I was assembling a new fire pit, and I needed to tighten a few nuts and bolts in some tight spots. These pliers were perfect. The slip joint design let me adjust the jaw size to get a good grip, and the handles provided plenty of leverage. No more scraped knuckles!Honestly, these pliers are so versatile. They're great for gripping, turning, holding, and maybe even light cutting. They feel solid and well-made, and the dipped handles are comfortable to use. If you're looking for a reliable pair of pliers that can handle just about anything, I highly recommend these slip joints. They're a toolbox essential that you'll reach for again and again.
