Product Description

burns

Burns

  • Cooling all burns with tepid to cool water, regardless of degree. Continue flushing the area for up to 10 minutes. Do not apply ice, ointments, butter or other “home remedies”. Remove all clothing or garments to reduce the contact time with hot items.
  • Cover affected areas with a clean dry cloth, towel or blanket to protect the burn and minimize pain.
  • Seek medical attention if burn is larger than the victim’s hand size, if the victim is a child or elderly person.
Fracture

Fracture

  • Immobilize the injured area: If you suspect they’ve broken a bone in their neck or back, help them stay as still as possible. If you suspect they’ve broken a bone in one of their limbs, immobilize the area using a splint or sling.
  • Apply cold to the area: Wrap an ice pack or bag of ice cubes in a piece of cloth and apply it to the injured area for up to 10 minutes at a time.
  • Treat them for shock: Help them get into a comfortable position, encourage them to rest, and reassure them. Cover them with a blanket or clothing to keep them warm.
  • You should call 911 if:
  • unconscious
  • doesn’t appear to be breathing
  • broken a bone in their head, neck, or back
  • the fractured bone has pushed through their skin
  • they’re bleeding heavily
bleeding

Bleeding

  • For severe bleeding
  • Remove any clothing or debris on the wound. Don't remove large or deeply embedded objects. Don't probe the wound or attempt to clean it yet.
  • Stop the bleeding. Place a sterile bandage or clean cloth on the wound. Press the bandage firmly with your palm to control bleeding. Apply constant pressure until the bleeding stops. Maintain pressure by binding the wound with a thick bandage or a piece of clean cloth. Don't put direct pressure on an eye injury or embedded object.
  • Secure the bandage with adhesive tape or continue to maintain pressure with your hands. If possible, raise an injured limb above the level of the heart.
  • Help the injured person lie down. If possible, place the person on a rug or blanket to prevent loss of body heat.
  • Tourniquets: A tourniquet is effective in controlling life-threatening bleeding from a limb. When emergency help arrives, explain how long the tourniquet has been in place.
  • Call 911 for severe bleeding that you can't control.
Choking

Choking

  • To perform abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) on someone else:
  • Stand behind the person. Place one foot slightly in front of the other for balance. Wrap your arms around the waist. Tip the person forward slightly. If a child is choking, kneel down behind the child.
  • Make a fist with one hand. Position it slightly above the person's navel.
  • Grasp the fist with the other hand. Press hard into the abdomen with a quick, upward thrust — as if trying to lift the person up.
  • Perform between six and 10 abdominal thrusts until the blockage is dislodged.
  • If you're the only rescuer, perform back blows and abdominal thrusts before calling 911 or your local emergency number for help. If another person is available, have that person call for help while you perform first aid.
  • If the person becomes unconscious, perform standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with chest compressions and rescue breaths
resuscitation

Resuscitation

  • 1. Put the person on his or her back on a firm surface.
  • 2. Kneel next to the person's neck and shoulders.
  • 3. Place the heel of one hand over the center of the person's chest, between the nipples. Place your other hand on top of the first hand. Keep your elbows straight and position your shoulders directly above your hands.
  • 4. Use your upper body weight (not just your arms) as you push straight down on (compress) the chest at least 2 inches (approximately 5 centimeters) but not greater than 2.4 inches (approximately 6 centimeters). Push hard at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions a minute.
  • 5. If you haven't been trained in CPR, continue chest compressions until there are signs of movement or until emergency medical personnel take over. If you have been trained in CPR, go on to opening the airway and rescue breathing.

I was looking for something that I could carry when I MTB, hike, climb, or am just our and about with my kids. And not just carry, but strap to the various other bags that I am always carrying, something that could be attached to the outside, and easily rip away when I needed it most. This worked perfect. This last weekend we were camping in the high Uintah mountains and went on a few hikes. I was able to strap it to the backpack I was carrying and easily pull it off for a bandaid when my little one took a fall and scuffed up her shins. My wife is an EMT and wanted the contents to be a little different, but for the price it is really hard to beat.

Bag works great, gear inside is a bit cheap but good for the cost a good base to add to with plenty of extra room in bag

Great base. Lots of extra straps and pockets to hold more gear. Added handful of other items ( rolled bandage, moleskin, ointment, spray bandage, pain killers, and Pepto bismo chewables). Now it's a great tearaway bag for my hiking milspec Camelback M.u.l.e.. the main platform will slot right in to most molle webbing, Velcro hooks to the first at bag then the strap clips around it. If needed you can unsnap the quick connect strap and pull the kit away easily, while still keeping secure while hiking.
