Last year while ending the mow season at my dad’s place I had an issue with his old 425 dying when abruptly engaging the deck when moving at speed or when hitting bigger bumps. It also had a random misfire issue that would come and go the season before. At first I thought the carb definitely needed cleaned because it was puking fuel up through the throat after it would die when you’d try to start it. Brought it home and went through the deck last week and had it die in the street while trying to get it on the trailer to take it back. After failing to get it started with a little ether I realized that it wasn’t fuel related and it wasn’t igniting the fuel. The flooding was actually a byproduct of no spark. Fooling around I noticed that little TDM just hanging by the starter and randomly whacked it with a screw driver while turning the key. Lo and behold it fired right off the bat! Took it back and told him that was probably the random problem we’ve had for a while. Wired the new one in and man, I haven’t heard that thing run that hard for a long time! It runs great now! No more sluggish starts, no more random misfires, no more dying randomly, it also seems to help turn that 60” deck at start a little quicker. This unit controls the impulses of the seat safety switch when you bounce around and it clicks on/off so it doesn’t die every time you bounce around.

I installed this on my John Deere 345. It didn't solve my starting issues so I brought it to a shop. The shop installed a different TDM and it started. Might have been a defective unit.
