This microphone works great for close and midrange use. The sound quality is really good. If you are getting started in videography, interviews, or making ASMR videos, this microphone is a great piece of equipment for getting started. It is powered by an AA battery and you have to remember to turn it on and to the correct setting before it will work. But it can catch really good quality sound for a digital recorder or external software program.

If this is all you can afford you should still get it. Better than in camera mic because you can place it where you need it.

I was surprised it's a really good mic for the price. I tested it using XLR cable into a Zoom H4n Pro and noise free!

For the price performance this works very well. The few times I needed an inexpensive solution, This did it. I had it hooked up to a Shure X2U adapter and right into a laptop (without the battery and standard XLR cable) and the result was very impressive for a $40 kit. (Not including the Shure adapter) Since the setup was being incorporated into a web conference the sound quality degrades in all the other devices - other laptops etc. any way. the sound quality of this device is no where near a professional standard but for $40? it's just right.

I am assuming it is because the .35mm male connector on the mic is TRS and my phone only recognizes TRRs jacks, so in needing to run it through an adaptor that also converts it to a USB-c that I am getting a bit of residual noise bleeding through. Not having tested it with an actual camera or external sound board, I can only speak to my experience which is what I bought it for, filming and editing comedy skits using my Pixel phone. And for that, it isn't optimal, but it's also no less functional than any other external mic I've tried in this format.

I was expecting the sound from this mic to be pretty harsh on the highs or blown out in the lows like most inexpensive mics are, but it's actually pretty flat and extremely clear. The noise cancellation isn't as great as some of the higher end shotgun mics, but is still pretty solid. I've used it for interviews, singers, and guitarists so far, and it has worked out great. I recommend this mic. For just over $20, you can't beat it.

I was blown away by the sound quality I got out of this mic. The chord it comes with went bad after about a week, but the mic itself has been working great for about a year so far. Definitely worth the price you pay. I would buy again with no hesitation.

Sound quality is really good. Directionality is very good as well. There is a slight hum which other people have noted, but it's really not a deal breaker. You can definitely find mics without this issue, but you'll be spending several times the price. The only issue I've seen is that the microphone mounts that come with this are terrible. They are rigid and transmit every vibration into the mic. Can't really use it mounted to a camera with the standard mounting because of this. Although, it's pretty easy to buy a shock mount which will fix this issue
