RDK-300B Controller for Hot Runner Coil Heater, 2nd Generation Deluxe

RDK-300B is the deluxe version of our 2nd generation PID controller for the hot runner coil heater. It can be used to precisely control the temperature of a hot runner coil. It is safe, accurate, reliable, and easy to use. The deluxe version has extra safety features and is more sleek in design.

RDK-300B was built from the ground up specifically for the consumer market. The design is very clean and functional. The confusing keypad and indicators were replaced with a rotary encoder and a power switch. The operation is intuitive and reliable. This simple and clean appearance, however, does not mean the controller is more basic. This controller has more features than any other competitor’s product on the market. Below are some of the highlighted features that most other products may not offer.

Key Features

Ease of Operation. Adjusting the set temp is very simple. A user only needs to tap the knob once to activate the temp setting mode, and then turn the knob to increase or decrease the set temp. It is just as simple as adjusting the temperature of a cooktop at home.

Real-time Parameter Adjustment. RDK-300B has a more powerful microchip capable of controlling temp and reading new parameters at the same time.

Hot Coil Warning After Turned Off. A hot runner coil may take more than 25 minutes to cool down after usage. The first generation controller doesn’t provide a reliable way to warn the user if the coil is still hot after being turned off, which could be not safe. For RDK-300, When a user switches off the heater, the display will stay on and alternate flashing "hot" and the actual coil temp. After the coil is cooled down to a safe-to-touch temp (150°F), the display will be turned off automatically.

Key Features (Cont.)

Compensated Temp Display. The temp sensor is located at the tip of the coil and does not represent the actual temp on the top surface of the nail, which is normally lower. This controller allows the user to adjust the display temperature so that the displayed temperature is more accurate.

Timed Automatic Power Off. The built-in timer can automatically shut off the controller after a specified duration. This duration time can be adjusted or turned off manually.

Over Temp Protection. A electro-mechanical relay is added to cut the power to the heater off when the temp is out of control. This is an added safety function to prevent operation error or SSR failure. Ergonomic Layout. The cables are connected to the back panel. It makes the appearance cleaner and safer to operate.

Lab Instrument Style Appearance. The enclosure is made of black anodized aluminum. The black finish also gives a smooth and clean look contrasting the white LED display. The dual color power switch is used.

Special Notes:

This listing includes one controller console and one 5ft power cord. Heating coil is not included.

Note for the coil compatibility: XLR pin assignment on the coil MUST match this controller as following:

1 & 2: Power to heater, 3: Thermocouple +, 4: Thermocouple -; 5: Ground.

Update notes for RDK-300B V2 version (current version): A new feature "boost mode" is introduced in RDK-300B V2. In "boost mode", users can quickly switch the set temperature between stand-by temperature (e.g., 300F) and "boost temperature" (e.g., 550F) by simply pressing the knob momentarily. Users can also define a boost timer, which let the controller maintain boost temperature for a certain amount of time. For details, please check the instruction manual. We are currently shipping RDK-300B V2 controllers (version 2 firmware). This firmware fixed an issue in the original RDK-300B firmware. Please check the document here for more details.

Don't buy this off Amazon. Ostensibly it's good quality, but now it won't turn on, and nobody is responding to my attempts at contact.edit: Auber fixed it with an email, after Amazon made it significantly more frustrating than it should have been.

The temperature control system is magnificent! Easy to use, heats the coil very quickly and has an auto shut off after some time so don’t need to turn off and can keep the temperature stable for fairly long time. A game changer to dabbing and not needing a propane torch, love it!

At the time of writing the manual for the newest model RDK-300b is not out yet. If you have any issues or can’t figure something out contact Auber support and they will resolve your issue quick!My issue was my PID wouldn't go back into standby mode after cool down even below 90 degrees. When contacting support they advised the default value was adjusted from previous models. Solution was to hold knob down till selector came up, dial to 155 and press down. Keep pressing down until you reach LL my default was 32 adjust this to your desired standby temp, I chose 100. Now the device will power down to 100 and return to standby.Overall great PID, good build quality and accurate and quick heating. Highly recommended!
