This USB Hub is powered for reliable connection and performance, and provides charge for other devices from three special charging ports. The cable supplied is long enough if you're connecting a laptop or low profile desktop, but if your connecting port is at the top of your desktop case, 'would highly recommend the longer cable pictured as "frequently bought together".

Still "plugging" along with no issues. Though I now am looking for a similar USB-C hub to work with my Macbook, this was being used with my iMac desktop, and now a Mac Studio. I have 8 devices plugged into it at the moment: 3 in the charge/data ports (charging devices), and 5 in the USB ports. I've added USB-to USB-C plug adapters for the times when I need a C cable plugged in, and everything works as it should. I've had zero issues with it 6+ years and counting. Always appreciate a "Name" brand over the monkey-typing-on-a-keyboard-brands with low prices and lower reliability. Wish Amz still featured high quality brands over the junk that litters the search now - but hey, that's a different issue.

I had purchased this for connecting my 4 external hard disc along with my printer. Its working as expected. Earlier I had used anker powered USB hub (7 port) which I had purchased in 2015 and still working without any surprises. I am purchasing this as a upgrade. Don't have second thought to buy it if you are planned to connect multiple hdd.

Great product and great service from Anker!Sent an enquiry regarding the product to customer service. They replied promptly and were able to answer all my questions. I have 4 non-powered 5 TB hard drives connected to the hub and it works great. Wanted to connect a 5th drive but ended up using it elsewhere. Highly recommend this product and this company!

Well designed and constructed with the heavier UBS 3.0 B connector. As well as plenty of grunt power.

UPDATED REVIEW:Had problems. Anker responded promptly with a replacement. Here's my email I sent to Anker support:_______________________I got the replacement. Thanks. I appreciate your prompt assistance and will update my review. I'm still having the same problem, though. It's a little weird. I have not thoroughly tested this -- that's your job -- but if I have a device plugged into USB port #1 (e.g. HP scanner), I can't plug something into port #7 later (e.g. Android phone). Scanner is fine, but Android won't connect (blue light turns on momentarily, then off). No error message in syslog either. HOWEVER, if I just use USB ports #1 (scanner) and #2 (phone) everything is fine and I can connect, disconnect, reconnect my phone with no problem. Likewise, if I just use USB ports #6 (scanner) and #7 (phone)... no problem. In fact, it seems it's only port #7 that is the problem. This is the syslog when there is a device already plugged into USB port #1, and I plug phone into port #7, the port #7 blue light turns on momentarily, then off:Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.317749] usb 10-1.4.4: new high-speed USB device number 40 using xhci_hcdAug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406025] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=214b, idProduct=7250Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406028] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0Aug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.406031] usb 10-1.4.4: Product: USB2.0 HUBAug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.407126] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: USB hub foundAug 23 07:30:45 brain kernel: [421641.407192] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: 4 ports detectedAug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421641.830171] usb 10-1.4.4: reset high-speed USB device number 40 using xhci_hcdAug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421642.127011] usb 10-1.4.4: USB disconnect, device number 40Aug 23 07:30:46 brain kernel: [421642.143230] usb 10-1.4.4-port3: attempt power cycleAug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.525790] usb 10-1.4.4: new high-speed USB device number 45 using xhci_hcdAug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613986] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=214b, idProduct=7250Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613989] usb 10-1.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=0Aug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.613991] usb 10-1.4.4: Product: USB2.0 HUBAug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.615143] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: USB hub foundAug 23 07:30:47 brain kernel: [421642.615209] hub 10-1.4.4:1.0: 4 ports detectedThe behavior above is with your hub plugged into a USB 3.0 plug on the motherboard. Only when connected to motherboard USB 2.0. And after four weeks, some of the sync ports stopped working. That is to say that some of the sync ports that previously worked for data sync no longer work for data sync, even with USB 2.0. I think internally this Anker hub probably has two separate chipsets, each one servicing several (three or four) of the hub's USB connectors. I suspect one of those internal chipsets died after less than five weeks. Too late for return, so have to contact Anker warranty support. What a pain, and what a disappointment.I wonder how many people even test this device to see if it really operates as a USB 3.0 device as advertised. I bet not many. And I know how to test on Linux, but not Windows. I'm using Linux (Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial). I've purchased other Anker "USB 3.0" hubs in the past -- including the Anker USpeed brand -- and have had the same issue with them being advertised as "USB 3.0" but only operating as a USB 2.0 device. That was in 2012, with an earlier Ubuntu version. Now its 2018, and a more recent Ubuntu version. Thought I'd give it another try. Disappointed. Again. In the future, I'll stick with another brand.

INTENDED USE CASE: Utilize the data ports for the following items in order to free up onboard 3.0 ports for my new VR headset:- External hard drive- USB sticks- Keyboard- Webcam- MouseUtilize the 3 power charging ports for the following:- Charging phones (Samsung Note 8, S9, and Google Pixel 3)- Charging GoPro batteries (3rd party accessories/attachments)- Powering LED strip lights behind monitor and around desk (from Wal-Mart and Amazon)Performance is highest priority. Performance for me is defined as consistent power output, fast read/write (comparable with onboard ports), and enough ports to fit growing accessory pool.PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: Let me start by saying that I have purchased and used many USB hubs. I have come to learn that if you intent on plugging in any items that need high speed transfer or require significant power to run (external hard drives -- especially if not SSD) you need a hub that is powered externally. The power your motherboard can output and allocate to each port is limited and you will experience lack of performance the more things you plug in. In my experience, a general rule of thumb is to keep solo standing USB hubs to 4 ports or less for best possible performance, and even then keep an eye on the things you plug in.THIS PRODUCT AS A SOLUTION: Perfect. This product met and exceeded my expectations. The read/write speeds for this product are amazing (see image - used usbflashspeed tool), and the charging speed/consistency on my Note 8 was fantastic (see image - used Ampere app). I tested the device with the following plugged in during both the data transfer and charging tests: keyboard (with led), external hard drive, webcam, Cyberpower UPS, Samsung Note 8 (power port, not data). The speed test images show all you need to know. If you are looking for an AMAZING USB hub, look no further.IMPORTANT NOTE:I am currently using the Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse, which had issues when plugged into the hub. This is NOT a concern for me because most wireless mice have various latency or lag issues with then are plugged into hubs -- externally powered or not. For best results when using wireless mice, especially if you want the accuracy to be crisp and on target, use an onboard port for your receiver.
