What kind of container to put the beads into so they can do their job?
You can use any of these and will find them working well: fine mesh food straining bag, mesh bag, T-Sac tea filters, tea bags, drawstring organza bag, muslin bag, mason jar, dryer containers, knee high nylon stockings, clear plastic storage bin, mesh laundry bags or women's hosiery. Even make your own bags and size them to the specific use.
3A Molecular Sieves
- 3A molecular sieves are ideal for drying applications because they strongly adsorb water, even at very low concentrations, without adsorbing larger molecules that could be present in the process stream.
- It consists of crystalline aluminosilicate with a very uniform pore size of approximately 3 angstroms (0.3 nm).
- They can function effectively across a wide temperature range and can be regenerated by heating to remove the adsorbed moisture and restore their adsorption capacity.
4A Molecular Sieves
- 4A molecular sieve desiccant with similar composition to the 3A sieve, but with a larger pore size what about 4 angstroms (0.4 nm).
- It is a synthetic zeolite composed of crystalline aluminosilicate, and its pore size allows it to adsorb a wider range of molecules compared to the 3A version.
- In addition to water, the 4A sieve can adsorb molecules like carbon dioxide, alcohols, alkanes, and other gases or liquids with smaller molecular diameters. This makes it more versatile than the 3A sieve.
5A Molecular Sieves
- 5A molecular sieve desiccant is a crystalline aluminosilicate (zeolite), but with an even larger pore size than the 3A & 4A sieves.
- In addition to water, 5A sieve can adsorb larger molecules such as normal hydrocarbons and CO₂. It excludes branched-chain hydrocarbons and aromatic compounds due to their larger molecular size.
- 5A molecular sieve is a versatile and efficient desiccant with a wider adsorption range compared to the 3A and 4A sieves. Its ability to adsorb water, CO₂, nitrogen, and straight-chain hydrocarbons makes it useful in gas separation and purification processes, as well as moisture control in various industries.
13X Molecular Sieves
- 13X molecular sieve desiccant is a highly efficient adsorbent with one of the largest pore sizes among molecular sieves that about 10 angstroms (1.0 nm). It is composed of a sodium form of zeolite X, with a three-dimensional crystalline structure that offers excellent adsorption properties.
- In addition to water, the 13X sieve can adsorb larger molecules such as carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide (H₂S), and various hydrocarbons. It is effective in removing impurities that other smaller pore sieves like 3A, 4A, or 5A cannot capture.

I bought this to dry 3D filament which I store in gasketted polycarbonate boxes. The humidity sensor in the box rapidly drops to Beware others comments that this desiccant can be dried in a domestic microwave; DO NOT DO THIS. I have seen these ceramic beads molten red hot (ie in excess of 1200°C) from a microwave which is highly dangerous. Please use a low kiln or oven/air-fryer set to maximum to refresh these beads.

I learned that molecular cyst could be used as a desiccant and they store more moisture collect more moisture and are easier to dry at higher temperatures. Why use anything else at this price

For 190 proof ethanol equal volumes will dry the ethanol. For wetter ethanol, distillation is first needed. Produces a lot of heat, so apply incrementally. Not cheap, but can be regenerated in a very hot oven, I think it takes 12 hours.

Bought for 3D printing filament.I bought a Polymaker Polydryer+Box I dried a fresh roll of vacuum sealed (w/desiccant) Creality PETG for about three days. When I initially put it in I believe it was around 32% right after I opened everything and pooped it in. Around 12 hours later 27%, two more days of 12-14 hour heating and I was able to get it to 19%. After two days off the heater it rose to 22% in the dry box. I just dumped this in the bottom of the poly box two and a half hours ago. It's at 10%. I don't think this dinky hygrometer they send with the Polydryer+Box is capable of displaying less than 10%. I bet it's even lower.Really, really, impressed. Put this around your filament rolls for storage and you'll be good to go fellas/fellets.

This works much better than silica gel to get to low humidity. Baking it in an oven at 550f worked for me to get it back the same dryness as how it was when I first opened the container. I weighed it on a scale before using it, let it absorb about 20% of its mass in water vapor, and was able to dry it in a few hours. I stopped when it wasn't drying much anymore and it was close to the original weight.

I didn't expect much for sieves this cheap but wow, they are extremely dusty. I tried using some immediately with some rubbing alcohol to test them, and they heated up which was a very good sign that they were working but I quickly noticed it get foggy. I didn't think much of it at first but after a few hours it was too foggy to see through. The initial batch of alcohol was effectively ruined because I have been letting it sit for over a day now without any sieves in it and it is still too cloudy to see through. I tried washing a batch of then by running water through them and stirring them gently, and this seemed to get rid of maybe 80% of the dust after close to an hour of washing. I tried putting them in a jar until it was half full and adding water and shaking it gently, and after doing this literally 10-20 times, it was only barely cloudy. I was just rolling the jar slowly and not destroying them so I don't think I was making the dust.The dust from these sieves is so fine, it passes through coffee filters like they are not even there. I was amazed because after passing over a liter of cloudy alcohol through a doubled up coffee filter, there was not even a hint of residue on it. I tried plugging a funnel with cotton and letting it slowly drip through, and even though the drop rate was only a drop every few seconds, it was still just as cloudy as it was before. I literally do not know any feasible way to remove the dust from these sieves, even with hours of washing.
