The bells and whistles were as described. However, I found out when I got to the Tetons, they don't really do much to deter bears. The bells aren't very loud and the whistle was adequately loud, I just luckily didn't use it. I also had Bear spray, which it turns out is a much better deterrent. It's better to go with a group when hiking in bear country and talk loudly or sing. I don't like to hike with a group, so I put my faith in my own singing and bear spray. I didn't bother with the bells at all, but I did hang the whistle on my pack where I could easily grab it if needed.

These bells offer a crisp, clear sound that is remarkably easy to produce with just a quick shake. They are straightforward to use and require minimal effort, making them ideal for various applications. However, while the bells shine, the whistles fall short. Blowing them requires more effort than expected, which may be a drawback for some users.Another minor downside is the limited versatility of the velcro on the bell strap. With only two length options, it may not accommodate all preferences. A longer velcro strap would provide more flexibility and ensure a better fit for different needs.Overall, these bells deliver on their promise of clear, crisp sound and ease of use, but improvements could be made to the whistle's performance and the velcro strap's design for enhanced user experience.

I purchased these to have when I go into the backcountry on my backpack and around my dog's collar. These should do very nicely though I have not tested in the field yet. My only critique is that the silencing magnet could be a little stronger but the build quality is great and the purpose of a bear bell is to not be silent so I can live with it! I would recommend!
