These are great for training people but are not the greatest out there for having on hand in real life situations.

These are RATS (Rapid Application Tourniquet System) tourniquets, which are easy to use for most people. RATS tourniquets are ideal for first aid kits because they are small and can be used on yourself, if needed. I am disappointed these did not come with instructions. They are not intuitive to use, and if someone found these in a first aid kit, they could easily use them incorrectly. I also wish they were not entirely black since if you use a tourniquet, you want to be sure first responders can locate it quickly and easily and black is easy to miss. There is a small section that has some orange tape, but it would be better if the entire tourniquet was orange. Practically speaking, it seems to work properly if you know how to use it. It's a great price and well worth having on hand in case you ever need it.

I wasn't sure about this product at first since it was so lightly made and did not have a windlace to tighten. The strap is elastic and I thought that it wouldn't give enough compression to cut off circulation, and this wold be true if you only wrapped it once or twice, but this works because it is elastic and you wrap many times to compound the pressure. It doesn't come with directions so you have to go back that the ad where there is a picture of how to use it. This is too bad because in the event that you ever use this you will likely not have time of access to look up how to use it so I would print the diagram and put a copy of it in with the tourniquet. Also, this only works if you follow the directions. Unlike the CAT tourniquets this one is a bit more complicated and has no margin for misuse.I did use this with success above the knee, lower thigh, over street clothes. It might be limited if you are applying it over heavy winter clothing or higher on the thigh of a bigger person.Light weight and effective tool for back country medical response.
