Pump housing cap drive shaft hole too large for the seal. Seal was the right size but it fit too loosely in the housing and could not seal as it should. Defective cap housing. Returned and reordered from another vender.

The lower unit shaft seal in this kit freely spins in the housing and pops off very easily. It will easily walk out under operation. The water pipe connection is also questionable.

I am sorry to report that this did not work in my 1985 Johnson/Evinrude 9.9 HP.It seemed to fit, but the water flow was weak, and the engine was overheating and steaming after 15 minutes. Replaced the thermostat, and still had the same problem, it was this water pump.I found another review that said only OEM parts will work correctly, so after spending *another* $40for an OMC (original manufacturer) water pump replacement kit, now my motor has a good waterstream and stays cool (measured with an infrared thermometer.)
