This small, lightweight, cordless impact driver can double as an electric screwdriver. It doesn't have a torque-limiting adjustment like many regular electric screwdrivers do, but it does have a sort of speed control--the farther you pull on the trigger, the higher the rotational speed. When used as an impact wrench, the amount of torque applied is a function of how long you hold the trigger button (a longer burst of operation imparts a higher degree of torque). The website description (and the printing on the box) say the tool can provide up to 300 Nm (Newton-meters) of torque (which equals 221 pound-feet), but labels on the box and the on the tool give the number as 500 Nm (equal to 369 pound-feet). While this little tool isn't exactly a commercial powerhouse, it will unscrew a lug bolt on my car in a couple of seconds. But keep in mind that it's powerful enough to break or damage some things, so be very careful not to over-tighten anything! The driver comes with two rechargeable batteries (each 21V, 2Ah), and has a built-in LED flashlight that turns on when you press the trigger button and stays on for a few seconds after release. A rather small charger is provided, which can provide 21V at 1A. (Simple arithmetic implies that a full charge could take up to two hours. Since you must remove the battery to charge it, you can charge one battery while operating the tool with the other.)The tool and its accessories are fitted into molded compartments in a clear-plastic insert in the product box. Forget about using that as a handy case, though--it's very difficult/inconvenient to remove the tool from its compartment in the plastic. You're better off finding something else to keep everything in.A set of screwdriver bits is supplied with the tool, along with a set of sockets for hex-head screws. I was surprised to find that the sockets were just 1/4" drive--not what I would expect for an impact wrench! The impact wrench itself is a heftier 1/2" drive--so how do 1/4" drive sockets mount onto a 1/2" drive wrench? Well, there's a 1/4" hex hole in the center of the wrenches 1/2" square drive, and fittings are provided to connect it to those screwdriver bits and sockets. But for "real" impact work, you'll need to provide your own 1/2" drive impact sockets. An "Operating Instructions" booklet is included, which provides general information about five of the company's products. Unfortunately, it says nothing about some of the features of this tool. For example, atop the base of the tool is a rectangle surrounding a red button and several LED indicators. A website picture labels this as the "Smart Control Panel," but there are no instructions anywhere for it. Nothing happens when you press the red button, unless you have first pulled the trigger (at least briefly) so the built-in flashlight illuminates. (Note that the trigger is locked out if the reversing switch is in the middle [locked] position.) While you're holding in the trigger button, three green LEDs in the Smart Control Panel light to give you an approximation of the remaining battery charge level. Release the trigger, and--while the flashlight remains lit (about 7 seconds)--successive presses of the red button will cycle through the L, M, and H LEDs (presumably meaning Low, Medium, and High power) if the Forward/Reverse is in the Forward position. If it's in the Reverse position, presses of the red button turn the Auto Stop function on and off, as indicated by another of those little green LEDs.The front "nose" piece of the device is attached with four Phillips-head screws. When my impact wrench arrived I immediately noticed that one of those screws was only halfway screwed in--not a good indication of quality control! Before trying out the tool, I tightened that screw (and it's three mates, which were also slightly loose).Overall, considering this item's small size, light weight, and relatively low price, I consider it a handy item to have around for home use (but not suitable for commercial use).
