The 2w10 rectifier bridge consists mainly of four diodes that convert the input AC voltage into the output DC voltage. In each duty cycle of the rectifier bridge, only two diodes operate simultaneously. The diode's one-way guide converts alternating current into a unidirectional DC pulsation voltage.

So a few sets of christmas lights i bought had a goofy circuit board which required me to turn on the lights every time my timer activated them. I cut itnout and soldered this in line with my plug and now, once plugged in, thelights come on with the timer. These are excellent. Have tested for hundreds of hours with no faults.
