It's a little better quality than if you get for your order from Olive Garden. It's plastic, nothing special, and it will not last long.

I got these the day before I was planning to do some canning (blueberry jam in this case), so I put one to use almost immediately. I loved being able to really get into the corners of my stockpot and get all that blueberry goodness out and into canning jars.It works great for pouring into jars for either right- or left-hand use, which is nice. Initially, I kept pouring from the front of the ladle, which did work also. (I was way too used to my regular ladle!)I don't have a dishwasher, so everything I have is handwashed. These cleaned up well.I have used this for more canning -- blueberry syrup, pinto beans -- and have also used this for soups and stews, and I love that I can dish up pretty consistent serving sizes. There are four of us living here, but my son and his wife visit frequently. When dishing up bowls of stew for six, I start with one ladle full in each of the bowls, and then usually a partial ladle in each. This ladle makes it so that I am getting a pretty consistent amount in each ladle-full, at least until I get down to scraping the bottom.I have used this also when making something up in bulk (refried beans and a soup base) that we store in the fridge and use throughout the coming week.I don't always remember that I can hook the ladle onto the side of the pan, but it sure is nice when I do that.Bottom line - these ladles are getting far more use than I expected. Love them!

I liked the idea of a large ladle for canning because it does get tedious filling jars with a small one. This ladle is "billed" as an 8 oz ladle - I measured it and it is truly a full 8 oz if filled right to the very top. By comparison, most other ladles are about half this size, so, it does meet that criterion and should be more efficient. I am on the fence on the material - it seems very solid, but that also could translate to brittle. Time will tell. The pour spout on both sides is really handy. I also like the hook idea, but almost all plastic tools I have had in the kitchen melt when they are placed on a hot pan or pot. I'm worried this hook might melt right off if left on the edge of a pot for too long. Again, time will tell..... I prefer silicone for tools to use on the stove as it does not melt. However, I'm still excited about the size of these and think they will be useful, not only for canning, but for soup, etc. At the price they are, which is not really bad broken down to price each, I wish they were available to buy singly as one is probably enough.
